2012 has begun:

Coach Thomas was in attendance last weekend (Dec. 11th) at the MTAC meetings in Murfreesboro, Tn. and was busy forming new relationships, keeping firm old relationships, and making the future for EAGLE FOOTBALL.

Soon to come, will be our 2012 schedule which could claim the possibilities of three new championships that the Eagles could win in 2012. Our team and our players will be moving to build on the wins that took place toward the end of the 2011 season and to draw more athletes to our team.

The vision of our program will continue to accept new coaches and players for our newly formed Junior Team, (ages 9 - 12) and our Senior Team, (ages 12 - 14). Our Juniors and Seniors, when coupled with our varsity team will allow Christian Faith to grow in athletes, parents, families, and communities as far as our program can reach. This branching out will also enable us to bring together families within the public school, private school, and home-school framework.

In 2012 we are growing, and the growth is large. I hope you are ready;

Eagles vs Kentucky Country Day

Two days earlier, at home (on Eagle Field) The Eagles won their first game of the year and on this day they would attempt to keep that streak alive against Kentucky Country Day. The eleven hopeful players for the Eagles took the field and kicked off to the Bearcats of KCD, after winning the toss and deferring possession of the ball to the second half. The Eagles stopped the mighty Bearcat passing attack on the game’s first drive after 7 plays. The Eagles had things going well but fumbled a center-quarterback exchange after putting together a 8 play drive themselves. The Eagles stopped the Bearcats once again, and then took the ball on a 7 play drive that saw Jonas Griffith score on a 55yard scamper, and Touchdown. The first quarter ended with the score 6 – 0 in favor of the Eagles.

As the second quarter began the Bearcats received the ball on a short field, via a fumble by the Eagles, and continued to march the ball down the field through the air to a Touchdown. The Eagles continued to run the ball effectively (using 6:50 of the total 8:00 minutes in the quarter) but failed to get the ball in the end zone and the first half ended with the score tied at 6 – 6.

The second half began with KCD kicking to The Eagles and the young men and your sons began to take control of the game. The running game and The Eagles controlled the entire 3^rd quarter as they did not allow The Bearcats to have an offensive snap. Yes, you heard me right, we had the ball for the entire 3^rd quarter as we mounted, what would end in, a 13 play drive of 65 yards, and an Ory Yates 1 yard Touchdown run behind the blocks of Derek Baete and Jacob Roberts. We threw an incomplete pass on the extra point and The Eagles led 12 – 6.

On the kick-off, after the Ory Yates touchdown, Timothy Miller kicked a great kick-off and after three Bearcat players attempted to corral the football two Eagles, C.J. Roberts and Jonas Griffith, jumped on the ball. The Eagles, with a 12 – 6 lead, took control of the football on the Bearcat 27 yard line with less than 5:00 minutes to go in the game. The Eagles took three downs to get the next first down, to the 13 yard line. The game clock now read 3:12, as the Eagles prepared to put the ball in the endzone and obtain their second win of the season. On first down Jonas Griffith went eight yards to lead to second down and two. The Eagles then had a mental melt down. At second down and two The Eagles had a delay of the game penalty (now second down and seven) and then on the next play an Eagle player jumped off-sides, now making the situation 2^nd down and twelve. The Eagles ran the ball twice in to The Bearcat defense and failed to make the first down. The Bearcats took control of the ball at their own six yard line with less than 2:00 minutes left in the game. They put together a 7 play drive and when the clock read :27 seconds (and running) The Bearcats were inside The Eagle 10 yard line taking a shot at a Touchdown. The Bearcats threw the ball three times toward the endzone with no completions and The Eagles won the game 12 – 6, in an amazing example of determination and will, ending the game going 10 players against 11 players (as C.J. Roberts became injured) and stopping The Bearcats when they had to.

Eagles versus Tri-Cities Christian School
October 15, 2011
From the Eastern Tennessee Appalachian Mountain foothills came the Tri-City Golden Eagles hoping to improve on their winning ways against our own Eagle football team. The game that ensued between these two teams would rival the game played in the previous year when the Golden Eagles won in dramatic style while scoring a late 4^th quarter touchdown that secured their 12 point win. On this day the Hometown Eagles would try to take control early, with the running game, and then finish it off in the fourth quarter. The Tri-Cities team took the kick-off and control of the game by the lack of offense produced by both teams. Our Eagles drove the ball several times but the many number of penalties (65 yards) and mistakes, both offensively and defensively kept the visiting team in the game. The Golden Eagles held the ball for 9:00 minutes of the opening quarter but the Eagles stiffened as the visitors grew close to the goal line, on two separate occasions, and the quarter ended all tied up at zero-zero.

The second quarter was when the Eagles began their own control of the ball and with a methodical twelve play drive the home team took the lead with just 5:25 left in the first half, 6 – 0. The visiting Golden Eagles ran the kick-off back to the 35 yard line and began their own drive, attempting to score before halftime. They were on the move, 7 plays into the drive, when, with less than 1:00 to go, in the half, Jonas Griffith intercepted a pass and took it down the sidelines for a 90 yard “pick six”, and the Eagles took a lead into half-time, 12 - 0. During the intermission the home team made some offensive and defensive adjustments and in the second half it paid dividends. The Eagles received the kick-off to start the third quarter and controlled the ball 10 of the 12 minutes, but mistakes kept them from finding the end zone. Gerry Griffith tackled the Golden Eagle quarterback in the end zone for a safety, on a very athletic play, and the third quarter ended with the Eagles in control of the game (and the score), 14 – 0. The fourth quarter saw more dominance by the hometown bunch as they controlled the ball, on two separate drives, for 11:45 of the 12:00 minutes in the fourth quarter. Ory Yates and the Offensive Line took control and scored one last time with 7:25 on the clock to finish out the scoring with a final score of 22 – 0.

Ory Yates led all runners with 136 yards on 20 carries and a Touchdown while the Defense stood tall, in crucial situations, and held the opponents to 24 total yards rushing and 34 total yards passing.

Eagles 16, Southside Crimson Knights 28

Eagles vs Southside Crimson Knights

Eagle Field, Louisville

The Southside Crimson Knights, are out of Indianapolis, Indiana, and the Southside bunch after a two hour drive brought it to the Eagles. They opened up the game running the “old fashioned” flying wing “T” formation from the late 1940’s and it pushed across (4) four Touchdowns with its’ mere muscle in numbers strategy. In a game that was pretty even throughout the contest the Knights gained 351 yards and threw the ball twice, while the Eagles gained 275 yards and threw the ball three times.

The Crimson Knights gained the advantage when they scored halfway through the first quarter on a 12 yard run around right end. Early in the second quarter the Eagles responded by mounting their own drive of 9 plays and 72 yards for the score that tied the game at 8 all.

In the third quarter the Knights again scored to take the lead atb16 – 8, but the Eagles came back again, early in the forth quarter to tie it at 16 a piece. In the fourth quarter, the home team wore down and the “muscle” of the flying “T” proved to be the difference as the Knights scored twice and the game ended in a 28 – 16 defeat for the Eagles.

C.J. Roberts had one of those great games a kid (or a coach) will never forget by running for 121 yards on 15 carries and creating havoc on Defense with 6 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles, a forced fumble, a recovered fumble, and a pass knock down. Tim Miller contributed with 53 yards on 11 carries, and Jonas Griffith had 86 yards on 13 carries. Gerry Griffith and Zach McClanahan also had great defensive games.

The players really played hard, and many things worked very well, but in the end fatigue and mistakes proved to be the difference. Great job Eagles!

Eagles 0 Gamble Montessori 18

Eagles at Gamble Montessori

Cincinnati, Ohio

The Eagles traveled to Cincinnati on Saturday to play the Black and Green Gamble Montessari team that had good size and speed. Gamble featured a defensive line with defensive ends that stand 270 and 260 with a nose tackle that weighs in at 290. The Gamble Montessori team also had athletes in many of their skilled positions and posed a tough match-up for our Eagles. Much the same as the Landmark Christian game we controlled the first quarter, but as soon as we got the ball we gave it right back on a quarterback-center exchange fumble. But with the short field, (starting from our 24 yard line), Gamble punched it in the endzone and took a 6 – 0 lead. We drove the ball down to the other end of the field, after the kick-off, but then, after controlling the line of scrimmage we had another fumble. The game went back and forth for the rest of the half and ended at half-time 6 – 0.

In the second half we failed to change our mistake riddled ways and had a total of 6 fumbles and 145 penalty yards (for the game). The penalties and the turnovers made it impossible to get anything going on offense and it kept our backs against the wall defensively. Gamble mounted a drive late in the third quarter and made the score 12 – 0, and then ended the scoring with under 3:00 minutes left to go in the game when Josh Lykins threw a desperation ball that was picked off and returned 76 yards for a Touchdown. The Final Score was Gamble Montessari 18 and our Eagles 0.

So; after scoring 41 points in our first game and 16 in our second game we have gone two games without any points scored. What concerns most fans of the Eagles are the mistakes. The coaches also think that the players are playing at a great level of intensity and focus but there are to many mistakes being made.

As we prepare for the Southside Crimson Knights the focus is “back to basics” and getting back to doing what we do best; run the ball. An emphasis has also been placed on plays that can get us first downs in third down situations. Come support your Eagles as we take on the Crimson Knights from the south side of Indianapolis, at home, on Saturday, September 24^th, at 6:00pm.

We need to add a designated worker to be in charge of the half time give away each home game. It takes 13 volunteers to run the home games successfully. If you are interested in working the next home game on Saturday, September 24th @ 4:00pm; respond back to this e-mail. The following positions need to be filled for each game:

The concession stand prices were discussed. We were in agreement that some of the items can be raised slightly to help bring in a better revenue to pay for the expense of the home games.

Our next football game is scheduled for this Saturday, September 17, 2011, 1:00pm, against Gamble Montessori School. The game will be played at Western Hills High School, 2144 Ferguson Road, Cincinnati, OH 45238. The detailed itinerary was given to each player after practice on September 14, 2011. All players must arrive at Evangel at 8:00am and will return back to the school after the game around 7:15pm for pick up. Each player must bring $25.00; $15 will pay for the fuel/team costs and the other $10 will be for the player to spend for food.

Our following game scheduled will be an away game played at Kentucky Country Day School (KCD) on Monday, September 19, 2011, 6:00pm. KCD is located at 4100 Springdale Road, Louisville, KY 40241. The itinerary for this game will be handed to the players on Thursday.

There will be no practice this Friday, September 16, 2011.

The big discussion of the meeting was the opportunity for our team to go to Dayton, Tennessee for a 8-man Play-off Tournament. This would be a 4 to 5 day mission trip at the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA). Our team would be lined up to play two 8-man football games. For the two days that we don't have a game scheduled the team will participate in meetings with guest speakers and worship services. Our team would either stay in the lodge or a nearby hotel. The cost depending on where we stay will be either $145.00 or 175.00 per player. This will include a meal card for a cafe that is open 24 hr/7 days a week. The lodge will hold 6 players in one room; 1 queen bed, 2 bunk beds. The hotel will hold 4 players per room. Parents are also invited to come. If we schedule in advance, where there is still available room, the parents will be allowed to also stay at the lodge for the $145 a person with meal card. If not, you can book a room at a nearby hotel and have the choice of purchasing a meal card. if your son(s) and you as a family can commit to attend. All answers, yes or no, need to be communicated to Coach Thomas by September 23, 2011. Coach Thomas will then make a decision, based on the number of players committed, if we will schedule for the event. Coach will communicate the decision; if we are going the fee for the players attending the event will be due in full by the next Friday, September 30, 2011.

This parent meeting was held at Culvers during a fundraiser event to raise money for our team. Other restaurant fundraiser events were discussed; such as looking into Mark Feed Store, Fazolis, Texas Roadhouse and McCallisters.

Landmark Christian 55, Eagles 0

Eagles vs Landmark Christian Academy

Eagles Field, Louisville

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in September the Landmark Eagles came to town and our Eagles were ready. Our offense took the field first, after Landmark won the toss and decided to defer to the second half. The next 12:00 minutes would see our offense on the field the entire 1^st quarter. In fact, we would control the ball, the line of scrimmage, and the game the entire 1^st half by controlling the ball for 20:00 minutes of the first 24 minutes. Unfortunately the Landmark Eagles would return an interception (84 yards) for a Touchdown, and a (72 yard) punt return for a Touchdown. They added one more on offense that made the score 21 – 0 at the half. A half that our Eagles controlled start to finish, except for the two big plays by the visiting Landmark Christian team.

The 2^nd half was controlled by the Landmark Christian team as they held the Eagles to 192 yards on the ground and only 3 yards passing. Standouts in a game that, toward the end, became lopsided were C.J. Roberts, (2 tackles, 2 assists, and 1 tackle for a loss), Jonas Griffith, (4 tackles and 3 assists), and Zach McClanahan who had 2 fumble recoveries along with 5 assists.

The Eagles continue to get better at kicking the football, with great kicks from Timothy Miller including a 63 yard punt that came to rest at the Landmark 12 yard line. Offensively, our Eagles were led by Timothy Miller with 82 yards on 17 carries. Jonas Griffith chipped in another 63 yards on 11 carries.

The Eagles travel to Gamble Montessori, in Cincinnati, this next Friday with hopes of picking up their first win of the season. Join us there and travel back to Eagle field on September 24^th for our next home game.

A message from the Coach

May Grace be on you and your family!

As far as the East is from the West, is as far as He will remove your transgressions.

We all have things we deal with, this fact was something I came face to face with this last Friday. I stayed after school to help a young man with his studies, and I witnessed the most beautiful, most free, expression of emotions I have every seen. As the young man struggled to grasp the fundamental school concepts that, I was trying to teach him, he began to cry. I could tell that we (he and I, together) had tapped in to something that was much larger than I would ever know or understand. As we worked, together, he wept more and more, to a point where he could no longer control his crying. As I tried to verbally comfort him and assure him that he would understand and there was no real need to cry, I began to understand that this young man needed love and understanding much more than he needed to be taught school subjects. He needed to know that a teacher cared for and about him.

Through it all, I was the one that was touched, and I was the one that learned, from this young man of God's creation. Isn't it amazing that God can take a situation and turn it around where you can be blessed, when the entire time you thought you were doing the blessing? I am the one with the problem; of not being able to open up to God, with all that I need to open up with. I wish I had the emotional presence to let my feelings out like this young man has. I have so many things that are so deep within my mind, my memory, and my heart that I will not share them with God. This situation, brought about one BIG question, Why not? I prayed that night that God would grant me the ability to open my heart to Him, with my problems, with my desires, with my faults, like that young man opened up to me.

I prayed to God for the ability to show that young man that God is the answer to all of our faults and problems and desires. God has grace that is enough for each of us in all of our situations.

Hebrews 12:15 “see to it that no one misses out on the grace of God”

I pray that each of you find grace today...through the search to become closer to God and through relationships that you build, with love, on this earth.

To Love someone is to view someone as Jesus sees them.

Eagles vs Hendersonville Christian School

16 - 42 Eagles Field, Louisville

The Crusaders from Hendersonville, Tennessee came in to town with one thing on their minds, to head back home with a victory. The Eagles, in preparing for the Crusaders, knew that they would have to contain #10 (Kevin Humpress) and cover #18 (Ethan Fields), if they wanted to put themselves in position for a victory. The game began with The Eagles running back the kick-off to nearly mid-field, and everything looked really good for the home team. After moving the ball nearly thirty yards the Eagles had a mis-cue on the punt snap and the Crusaders walked in, from 8 yards out, just 6 plays later. The Eagles added a Touchdown of their own, after a drive of 9 plays, with Jonis Griffith scoring from 3 yards out on a quarterback keeper. The quarter ended in an 8 – 8 tie.

In the second quarter the Eagles found out that the key to the game

was realistic in the fact that they would have to control #10 and #18. Humpress connected with Fields for a 55 yard scoring pass and Humpress scored on a 46 yard scramble. The first half ended in a 22 – 8, storm, but the Eagles understood that if they could figure out how to control the Hendersonville main two weapons, they could come back and win this one.

Things looked good through the 3^rd quarter as the Hendersonville team took the ball on the kick-off and was stopped by the defensive pressure of the Eagles. Gerry Griffith and Zack McClanahan added a new spark to the Eagles with their Defensive presence and coverage on the 6’3”, Fields got better. The Eagles added another short run (1 yard) by Jonis Griffith to make the score 22 – 16, but that would as close as it would get. The Crusaders added a touchdown with no conversion and the quarter ended 28 – 16.

The Eagles were close and they knew it, but they could not muster up the effort to punch the ball in the end zone in the final quarter, and the two kids from Hendersonville showed to tough to stop as the Crusaders scored twice in the final quarter to end the game with a score of 42 – 16.

The Eagles have lost two games that were in the grasp to be won. “We must learn the level of play and focus this game requires”, says Coach Thomas. The players remain positive and are working hard to become better, each day, and with determination, hard work,

and teamwork life goes on in the Eagle locker room.

Eagles 40 - South Haven 47

Leading the way was our running game, with 367 yards and averaging 9.175 yards per carry. The Eagles did not punt in a game that went back and forth, but small mistakes made the difference in a 40 - 47 loss.

The Eagles were 4 for 7 in the passing game for 58 yards, and proved that they could move the ball through the air if they need to.

The Offense was led by QB, Jonis Griffith with 204 yards rushing and 55 yards passing, but all the players contributed greatly. The offensive and defensive lines played very well, opening up holes on offense and closing up holes and taking care of responsibilities on defense.

Gerry Griffith caught 3 passes for 55 yards, and C.J. Roberts carried the bulk of the running chores with 11 carries for 79 yards, but Timothy Miller, Ory Yates, and Luke Jones chipped in on the rushing job with a combined 16 attempts for 86 additional yards.

On defense Jonis Griffith led all tacklers with 13 tackles and 6 assists, for a combined 16 points, but Gerry Griffith had 2 forced fumbles, Ory Yates had an interception, while C.J. Roberts and Derek Baete contributed with 2 fumble recoveries.

The Eagles took a step toward becoming great. It was a tough step, being a very hard fought loss, but it was a good step in the right direction. It came down to the little things. The Eagles have the talent to be successful. We must work hard to become better every day.
Coach Thomas says, "good athletes work on what they're good at, and great athletes work on what they're not good at." It's time to work!

Here we Come

The Eagles travel to Joelton, Tennessee tomorrow at 2:45 pm for the first game of the year. Kick off is 6:30 central time, and the Eagles are ready for the opener.

It has been a fun, tough five weeks of practice and many things have happened. We went through conditioning, two-a-days, long-a-days, working at KJ's football fundamental camp, we fed the needy at The City of Hope, and we have grown together as a team by spending hours on hours learning about each other.

This group of players is a very special group. We have twelve players and each of them understand the daunting task in front of them, to go through a twelve game schedule with twelve players. All the pieces are in place and we set forward in to motion as a unit of twelve strong courageous men with nothing but success in our minds, in our hearts, and in our plans.

Two-a-Days

WOW! Two-a-Days is over and the team goes into Long-a-days next week.

We, together have put in 25 practices, with 18 left before our first game. Things are really on the move at EAGLE FOOTBALL.

The players have worked hard and so have the coaches. It has been such a joy and blessing to work with kids that I have worked with before. They understand the expectations and demand it of one another.
We have learned much, as a team and as individuals. We are so
far ahead of ourselves, a year ago, it is unbelievable.

It will be very apparent on the field.

But most of all it is already apparent in the souls, minds, and
hearts of the players. These kids enjoy being around each other and
they enjoy it so much it spreads within the group. And, believe me,
with 90+ temperatures and above 100 heat index's Coach Thomas
has not back off at all.

The players have also had great opportunities for Community

Service. We fed the needy, the hungry, and the less fortunate at "The City of Hope". We helped young kids develop in to better football players and more importantly future strong Christian young adults at "The KJ Football fundamental Camp".

These young men, (your sons) have responded in great ways to others that
they can help. As their Head Coach I am so very proud of them, in so many ways!

I can't wait to watch these great young men compete, together as a unit, on
the football field. They work hard and get better each and every day!

"Four Corners', is that special thing that we do each day, makes us grow physically and mentally each and every day. Ask your sons about that; I'm sure they have great stories about that, but all kidding
aside Football is a physical sport, but it is also a very mental sport.

Players must learn to do what their heart tells them to do and not what their mind or body wants them to do. Players learned, this last week, that the heart sets the boundaries for the brain, in our daily Bible study.

The players also were taught how special each and everyone of them are and how great the odds were, that had to be conquered, for them to have the life that they have. The players were prompted to think about some really important questions, that led to a strong belief in God and a relationship with Jesus Christ.

They also were introduced to the two-a-day training table and the
infamous peanut-butter steak. The most prized item are hot fires,
sweet tasting lemonade, and pop-sickles. You would have thought it
was Christmas when we had "Say" sandwiches.

Football, inspirational, films packed the rest periods (in the middle of the days) and the kids learned from others before them. Stories (films) about success, hard work, dedication, pushing through tough times, and love, hope, and desire.

Tired players sat through chalk talks and learned what makes us who
we are. EAGLE FOOTBALL, is an all encompassing organization that aids in the growth of young men, on and off of the field. Your sons are growing in ways I can not identify and they can not know, but God is taking hold of these young men by their dedication and work ethic that they are developing.

So we sprint forth, toward the season before us, and we gain strength each and every day we spend time together, because we are becoming a TEAM. We work, we laugh, we share, we pick each other up, and we get stronger together.

We are fulfilling our mission statement. "Eagle Football will turn young boys in to great Christian men by using football as its vehicle."

I am very proud of these young men!

Simply reply with a yes or no. The varsity mandatory practices start July 11, 2011. The middle school and junior teams start on August 1, 2011. The registration fees that are due are as follows:

The Summer Volunteer Workout schedule has changed. Coach Thomas will have the weight trailer open on Monday and Tuesdays from now until July 8, 2011 to prepare for this football season. He will have a workout plan posted to follow. It is required that each player gets himself physically conditioned and prepared for the heat by July 11, 2011. It is highly recommended that each player gets outside as much as possible to work, play or workout; this will get them accustomed to the heat. Coach would like for each player to run 10 to 15 minutes daily and to do a lot of sit-ups. Listed below are the hours the weight trailer will be open:

Monday – 5:00pm – 9:30pm

Tuesday – 9:00am – 12:00pm

NOTE: Coach Thomas will be available at Evangel Christian School during these times for questions and for forms/fees to be turned in.

Coach Thomas is in need of men volunteers to help him install a multi-station unit in the weight trailer. If you’re able to dedicate some time please contact Coach Thomas, (502) 523-0869; he needs at least 3 men to orchestrate their time together with him to complete this task.

Our football team really benefits from advertisement sells in our football program. These funds are used to buy equipment needed and to fund the operational expenses for each game. The company that purchases an ad will receive a tax donation. If you are not familiar with the game football program, contact Coach Thomas and he will give you a copy. Moms, Mothers, Momma's are the most special people that God has created. They have an abundance of love to share, to give, and to hand down through teaching to not only their children but to everyone who stands to listen and learn. Mothers are the backbone of our program, because of their love for their children.

Fathers play an important role by the sharing of their time and working hands and their commitment to stand fast in their desire to raise their sons in discipline, hard work, and commitment (which every man knows that we need to be successful).

Because moms care and love so much for their children they need assurance that "my baby" is going to be alright in a seemingly tough, physical, and demanding sport. First year moms are always the toughest to assure; but when they see their boys grow toward becoming a young man with skills that they never knew their sons had and they watch them develop friendships that are meaningful and faith filled, it brings me more joy than I had ever imagined. It really is one of the greatest parts of my job; watching moms develop into a supporter of what God does through our program.

Did you know; that an independent survey was done during the first part of the 2000's and there were more head and neck injuries in soccer than there were in football. Did you know that during the same 10 year period that this study also found that there were more ankle and knee injuries in basketball than in football? The truth is that during the ages of 9 through 12 football players are more apt to becoming injured due to hitting the ground rather than hitting each other.

The Eagle Football Program, (by using 27 years of coaching experience), puts into place the most extensive injury prevention program that you will find anywhere, at the 9 thru 19 age level. But more importantly, we pray for safety and Gods protection to be placed over us each and every day and He watches over every boy in the program.

Thank you mom, for allowing me to teach and coach your son. You may stand assured that he will be loved, cared for, and taught by Gods hands in everything we do.

Summer Camp

School is officially over and Summer, at least for students, has started!

What that means is it is time to get ready for football in July. I have a few questions for players only concerning two-a-days and camp, and I have placed them on the blog. So, players only, go to the blog and tell me what you think!

Players begin getting used to the weather, the 90 degree temps this week, by spending some time outside, working or playing.

Also, begin easy but begin running and working out. Always come out of a stance, (3-point or 2-point).

I don't know about you but I am planning for a great year and preparation starts the whole process. So LET US PREPARE OURSELVES!

Summer Workouts

Now that school is coming to an end it is time to discuss Summer Workouts.

Summer workouts begin on June 6th from 5pm to 9pm. All Summer workouts are voluntary and they last about 1 1/2 hours. Players can come when they want and workout, as long as they are through by 9pm.

Summer workouts are held in the weight room.

Summer workouts are designed to either keep players in shape or to get them in shape so that they are ready for mandatory practice, when it begins, on July 11th. They have a choice; either they can get themselves in shape or they can allow me the privilege of getting them in shape, the 4-corners way!

It is essential that players are in shape for two-a-days, the third week of practice, so that heat injuries and fatigue injuries do not hamper players abilities to gain skill, knowledge, and motivation.

The plan is to have all linemen working out together on Mondays and Wednesdays and skilled players to workout on Tuesdays and Thursdays, although players can workout as much as they want; it will not hurt you. Working out with players that are going to play next too builds team unity and teamwork.

The Summer workouts have been mailed out, for some of you when you go on vacation or can not make it to the weight room as much as you would like to.

It is now time to sign-up for the 2011 Season of Eagle Football. The Varsity team will start their mandatory practices on July 11, 2011. The Middle School and Junior teams will start their first manatory practice on August 1, 2011. It is expected that family/players make the team practices/games a priority. A copy of the calendar is available to be picked-up with Coach Thomas. The registration form/fee is now due to be turned in. The fee schedule is as follows:

Please make it a priority to turn in your registration form/fees. Coach Thomas will need to know who is playing in order to organize the teams and the equipment needed. It is very important for the registration and spirit pak fees to be paid on time than he can purchase the items needed for this season.

Coach has given us the opportunity to fundraise towards the amount of the registration/spirit pak to the point where your son could play for free. You can do this by selling ads to be placed in our game program (income tax deduction). If you sell an ad in our game program Coach Thomas will award 50% of the proceeds towards your son's registration/spirit pak fee! Listed below is the price to place an ad in the program:

Coach also introduced the "Work Around the House" fundraiser for families who want their son to earn his own money to apply towards the registration/spirit pak fee. You simply pick up the form and have your son do jobs for families/friends. After the job is completed the form will be completed and the money earned will be attached. The form/payment will be turned into Coach Thomas for him to apply towards the registration/spirit pak fee.

We are currently in the Off-Season Weight Training workouts. If your son is interested in participating report to the weight trailer from 4:30 to 6:15, Monday - Thursday until May 26, 2011. The Voluntary Summer Workouts will begin on June 6, 2011 through July 7, 2011. It is essential that your son reports to manadatory practice in shape and used to the heat. If your family is unable to participate in the Weight Training or Summer Workouts take time to motivate your son to get out in the heat and follow a work out plan. Coach will email a recommended exercise plan to follow during the summer months. It is to your son's best interest to do so. NOTE: On the first week of practice, don't let your son quit when he starts to complain. He will be pushed physically/mentally and will need time to adjust and grow with the program.

Coach Thomas has been doing improvements around the field and in the weight trailer. With some parent/player help he has been able to accomplish repair/cleaning/lubrication of weight equipment, installation of shelves in weight trailer, planting of three trees and seeding of the football field. He now needs help in the following areas:

1) Put together a large multi-station weight equipment. The multi-station is very heavy. He needs 3 to 5 men to help him

move the multi-station into place and bolt it together.

2) Plant approximately 50 trees (saplings) as a border at the ends of the football field.

3) Build a deck for the weight trailer; the stairs to enter the weight trailer are unstable. After the deck is completed he

would like to build a equipment storage/repair room onto the back of the trailer.

4) The gutter board on the weight trailer needs to be replaced.

5) Skirting installed on weight trailer.

6) Team benches.

Coach would like to develop car pools or a van system this season to help families that are struggling to get their son to practice/games.

Coach discussed the equipment needs that need to be purchased this season, they are:

JUNIORS

1) Purchase pants with built in pads.

2) Purchase helmet/shoulder pads from KYS; the helmets will need to be stripped, painted and decaled. Coach could use

volunteers to use a drill to remove hardware off helmets to prepare for painting. He will need volunteers around June

1st to complete this job. If you are able to volunteer notify Coach.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

1) Need to put numbers on the Navy Jerseys.

2) Purchase leather game balls

VARSITY

1) Purchase good chin straps

2) Purchase rib protectors

3) Purchase White Game Jerseys

Looking for Interested Coaches

Coach is interviewing for assistant coaches for the team. He would like 5 coaches for varsity, 3 for middle school and 3 for the junior team. He is looking for the following qualities in a coach:

1) Christian-based men

2) Commitment; someone that will be there for the players/team

3) Man of his word

Coach is going to Portland Christian and a homeschool event (June 1st) to share about the football program and sign-up interested players.

Listed below are the topics that were discussed in our Football Parent Meeting:

The basketball league fundraiser has been delayed to start after spring break. Coach Thomas is hosting a men's basketball league to raise funds for our football program. He is posting an ad in the sports/recreational section of the newspaper for interested players ranging from age 16 to adult. The league will play on Wednesday for 14 weeks at Evangel Christian School. The cost to register a men's basketball team is $350.00. If you would like to volunteer to work the concession stand (drinks) or keep score at the game please notifiy Coach Thomas of your interest to volunteer.

Coach Thomas and a few volunteers worked on the weight trailer during the 3-day Work Days he scheduled in March. It was a start in cleaning, organizing and painting; however, there is still more work needed to be done. Coach is asking for volunteers to help out in the month of April in the following jobs to finish the work needed in the weight trailer.

a) 3 or 4 men needed to arrange weight room equipment (heavy lifting required)

b) Upholstery 3 or 4 benches on weight equipment, or possibly all to make match

c) 1 6-foot belt needed to be fixed on weight equipment

d) Install shelves to store concession stand items

Coach Thomas has also scheduled a Work Day on April 14, 2011 for the players and any parents who would like to volunteer their time to do some landscaping. He plans on planting some trees and would also like suggestions on what type of bushes/flowers to plant. The work will begin at 4:30pm and will last as long as Coach has volunteers to work. Please contact Coach Thomas of your interest to volunteer; it will be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks to Eric Yates we have now obtained the 3 large tractor tires Coach requested for training/conditioning purposes for the team.

Coach is figuring the railroad ties to fence in the track around the football field will be ready for delivery in July. At that time he will need large trucks for transportation and volunteer workers to unload and build the track.

Coach Thomas is still in the process of interviewing perspective assistant coaches for the team. He is looking for Christ-centered individuals who agree with the mission to build Christian young men through this football program. He is looking to have 5 or 6 coaches for this football season.

We just finished our Spring Flag Football program; it ran for the past three weeks and was a

great success! The Spring Football program is a continuation of the off-season conditioning program for our existing players, but it is also designed to let new kids who are interested get an idea of how the football program works. All players involved had fun playing flag football and we have a few who are now intersted in joining the team! Coach Thomas was very proud of the older varsity players who took the time to motivate and encourage the younger players.

On April 11, 2011 we will begin our Off-Season Weight Training Workouts, Monday thru Thursday, 4:30pm - 6:15pm; this will continue through May 26, 2011. Coach Thomas will host a Lift-a-Thon on the last two days of weight training, May 25th and May 26th. The winner will be the one able to lift the most weight based on a percentage of his own individual weight. Players will need to report to the weight trailer by the field instead of reporting to the front of the school.

Coach Thomas handed out examples of the ad sizes/cost that can be sold for our game football programs. This is a great opportunity that will benefit the team and your pocketbook! To kick off the official football season the Varisty players will have a sleep over at the school on July 8, 2011. This will be a great bonding time for the players with plenty of games to be played. Sport Physicals are scheduled for the next morning, July 9th, for all football players, which also includes the Junior and Middle School players. The physicals are scheduled at 9:00am and will be given by a doctor with 2 nurse assistants at Evangel Christian School. There will be a $25.00 fee for each physical. Parents please make sure your son has the $25.00 fee and the KHSAA physical form with the parent and insurance sections completed. The doctor can NOT complete the physical without the form completed by the parent first. If your son is unable to come to this scheduled physical he must have his physical completed by a doctor before the official start of the football season on July 11, 2011 for Varsity players and August 1, 2011 for Junior and Middle School players.

Some parents have expressed an interest in starting a cheerleading squad for our team. If you have a daughter who would be intersted in participating on this cheerleading squad please contact Teri Eisenmenger through her e-mail address, je2911@bellsouth.net. Also, if anyone has experience and would like to be the cheerleading coach let Mrs. Eisenmenger know of your interest.

Most people view football as a contact sport, but is it the only contact sport? That would be an easy answer considering boxing, judo, wrestling, ..., but how about soccer and basketball? Did you know that between the years of 2000 and 2010 there were four times as many joint injuries in basketball than in football? Did you know there were 2 1/2 times as many of head and neck injuries in Soccer than in Football during the same time period?

The truth is that injuries do happen in all sports, and a good, well designed injury prevention program is something you as a parent or player should be looking for. We pride ourselves in our injury prevention program as well as our heat emergency action plan. But it is a key point that any athlete participating in Summer and Fall sports needs to become acclimated.

Come to our parent meetings and get in on what we do to protect our players!
